I think a guide is worthwhile because there are a lot of things that you wouldn’t learn without them. I was on my own and there were no others on the tour so I was able to ask lots of questions.
We were there fairly early so I don’t think we actually jumped a queue. Like many attractions, if you get there early it’s usually less crowded.
There are options to visit old Delhi market lanes afterwards as it in the same neighbourhood.
The driver dropped me back to the hotel making the whole experience fairly painless.
I literally booked a couple of hours before the tour and they were very accomodating in making it happen as I didn’t have a lot of time.

Together we planned the trip to these places: Mandawa, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, desert safari, Jodhpur, udaipur, pushkar, jaipur, ramtambur jungle safari and agra. All the places had been amazing. Sanjay has a clean and nice car with air condition. He is a very good driver and knows all the good places and stops on the go. But the biggest gift of this trip is the relation to Sanjay. When... read more you walk into Hindustan Hostel you will see Raj’s desk. He will be your vacation guide. Not like a spiritual guide but he can find one for sure. He drew a tour map for our 10 day stay in India and it went like the wind. He proposed us an amazingly balanced plan where we saw architectural beauties, took part in cultural activities and even partied with locals. He introduced us to Vinay( Vinnie the Fixer). There are a lot of things that I will miss about India and Vinnie is in the top five. Vinnie was our driver for 10 days. We turned his car into a party bus( thanks again Vinnie). If you need anything Vinnie will fix it. He. Will. Fix. It. He is sometimes a big brother, sometimes a tour guide and sometimes a party animal. If you feel lost or just want to make some changes through the way, they will help you. Our one time experience went smoothly. Im sure you wills too. Adventure awaits!

The whole package seemed overpriced to us at first, but in retrospect was well worth it, saving us from many problems while giving us a super introduction to the country and culture. As backpackers, we were worried that we would fall into the tourist trap and lose some of the more authentic India experience - this was not the case and we have made many impressions and experiences through our terrific driver, which would otherwise have been denied to us.
